Health Facility

Health Facility Security Guard Services in Jamaica

Have you ever visited a friend in the hospital? Or meet a new baby there? Maybe you’ve had a stay in the hospital recently? You don’t need to spend much time at a hospital to realize that healthcare teams are working at capacity every moment in order to ensure that each of the patients in their care receive competent and compassionate attention. Try as they may to make their rounds on time, hospital and care facility workers are often faced with stressful encounters with patients and visitors which may take time to resolve without support.
Healthcare facilities are unique environments which therefore require specific training and tactics from security guards. ROYALE MARINE SECURITY provides security guards that will work in a healthcare facility, training on de-escalation techniques, non-violent intervention skills, and proper customer service etiquette.

Services We Offer

Security Services For Everyone's Safety

Professional security guards are used in facilities where either general vigilance is required, or a patient who is potentially violent or a flight risk may be assigned a security guard to ensure the safety of both the patient and staff. Some of these instances may include:

Medical Cause

There are medical causes of uncharacteristic behaviours of hospital patients, including degenerative diseases such as dementia. These patients are often not in control of their behaviour when they are not lucid and need to be kept safe despite their hysteria. Security guards have many strategies to effectively communicate with confused, angry or disoriented patients. These patients can become so confused that they leave the building in a snowstorm and put themselves at serious risk. Security guards ensure that patients are not posing a risk to themselves or others, and that they remain within the facility.

Drugs and Alcohol

Many of the bad situations that occur in a hospital setting are the result of drugs and alcohol. This results in unpredictable behaviour that is not easily controlled. Some patients or visitors may be under the influence, or beginning to suffer from withdrawal, leaving them desperate and dangerous. Security guards are critical in these instances, as subduing the threat requires detaining the subject safety to ensure the safety of those in the vicinity. Without a security guard to act fast, violence, theft, assault or other crimes could be committed before the police arrive and the assailant has fled.

Verbal Conflict

Many of the people who are in the hospital are under the effects of stress and fear and may have a shorter temper than usual. Many visitors are on edge as they are overcome with fear and worry over a loved one. Where tensions are high, a security guard intervenes to diffuse the intensity of conflict and promote a resolution if possible. Alternatively, non-patient participants will be removed from the facility by personal escort.

Undermedicated

Patients who are reliant upon psychiatric medication for normal functioning may find themselves in the hospital after going off their medication or neglecting to take it. These patients can remain in this state until they are medicated at a therapeutic level.
Regardless of the circumstances, security guards exercise respect, professionalism and reliability in their roles and support the efficient functioning of nursing units by ensuring order.

Hospital Security - A Fine Line

Hospitals have a challenging job where security is concerned. Hospitals are quite unique in that they are, both, well secured and at risk. Any member of the public can enter a hospital as a visitor day or night. While the majority of entrances are locked after visiting hours, the emergency ward and ambulance bays remain necessarily open at all times.
Access control is commonly achieved with ID cards in the hospital, allowing staff to enter only the supply, staff, and treatment areas they require. While this is helpful, it does not alleviate the potential for walk-ins, because these areas are typically inventory rooms and not of interest to visitors in the hospital. Units, however, must remain open for families to visit throughout the day and for beds to be moved around on the unit easily. What results is the potential for someone to enter the building to visit a friend or family member and have that visitor become combative and derogatory toward staff or other patients. Hospital staff regularly report instances of physical and verbal assault by a patient, either intentionally or as a result of a medical concern. In these scenarios, ROYALE MARINE SECURITY plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of both staff and patients, responding effectively to incidents and maintaining a secure environment within the hospital.
  • Theft by those using the crowd to their advantage to conduct their business without notice
  • Theft by internal staff who use their access to restricted areas to steal valuables, materials or other
  • Vandalism of property is common at group events. Your security guard is continuously monitoring the attendees to ensure no damage to property
  • Incidents of injury as well as emergencies such as heart attack or stroke must be handled with care. If there are paramedics on site, ensure that your security staff are aware of where to locate them. Radio communication should include emergency responders, if on site.
  • Overconsumption is a likely challenge to any security team where alcohol is served. Arguments, conflicts and belligerent behaviour should not be tolerated, and guests should be safely escorted away from the event. In the case of overt violence, guards may subdue the attendee until they can be relieved by a police officer who can further detain the individual.

All Hospital Property

Our security guards are there to protect the safety and wellbeing of those within the hospital facility, as well as outside of the facility. Parking lots and potential hiding areas will be part of foot patrol procedures as guards look for signs of unusual behaviour and can issue parking tickets if required. Each security guard is connected to the rest of their teams by way of two-way radio and can call for reinforcements or other support from their colleagues at any time.

Working Together

Health Facilities are complex environments to conduct security for due to their inherently open structure and diversity of occupants. ROYALE MARINE SECURITY provides necessary support to health units, allowing their focus to remain on patient wellness.
